Backstage Bali joins the Ubud Writers Festival 2013 Oct 7-16
- 4 days writing intensive on the edge of a volcano at Kintamani.
- 5 days gathering inspiration at the Ubud Writers Festival.
- optional extra week (Oct16 -23) at a Gaia - Oasis mountain retreat, north Bali.
Writing the volcano
We begin our retreat at Lakeview Hotel, perched on the rim of a volcanic caldera, with stunning views over Lake Batur. Morning workshops and evening readings are designed to give total focus and support to your writing project. On afternoon excursions we follow the map of Balinese cosmology linking the senses and elements with essential aspects of writing craft and applying this stimulus to our writing.
The magic of Ubud
This year’s Ubud Writer’s Festival brings back its original theme: Through Darkness to Light, as well as a number of writers who were part of the inaugural UWRF. It will also honour RA Kartini, Indonesia's beloved women’s rights pioneer, and will focus on women's stories, women's rights and education, heroes and visionaries. See a sneak preview at www.ubudwritersfestival.com
In Ubud we continue our workshopping at daily meet-ups within the festival schedule. It’s a great way share the festival experience with fellow writers, while keeping the conversation about your writing alive. We stay at a Ketut’s Place, a well loved Ubud guest house. Ketut was the original Bali guide of Lonely Planet founder, Tony Wheeler.
Backstage Bali Plus One Oct 7 - 23.
A secluded mountain retreat
For those who want to take the inspiration of the festival directly into their writing, we have an extra week add on at Gaia-Oasis Retreat. Gaia offers healing and mind/body classes, mountain walks, beach excursions and delicious local food. Morning meditative writing sessions will leave writers free to work at their own pace all day before attending re-dinner readings. One-on-one mentoring sessions also available.
Bring a current writing project or start one afresh. The workshop exercises are designed to progress your writing, whatever stage it is at. All genres and all levels of experience are welcome.
